Just Security is Hiring! – Legal Editor
Just Security is seeking a full-time Legal Editor with strong editing and writing skills to work with us in our mission of bringing cutting-edge thinking on security, democracy, civil liberties, human rights, and the rule of law to the national conversation. This is a one-year position that may be renewable by mutual agreement.
The Legal Editor will have a JD or another graduate degree in law and experience editing law-related writing. Additional professional experience is highly desirable. This position may be remote, in-person (New York City), or hybrid.
Just Security is an editorially independent, non-partisan, daily digital law and policy journal that elevates the discourse on national security, democracy and the rule of law, and rights. We publish rigorous, expert analysis and informational resources on the issues that matter most. Our goals are to inform and empower decision-makers with high-quality analysis, foster informed dialogue on challenging issues, and remain accessible to our global audience. Since 2013, Just Security has served as a vital resource for policymakers, lawmakers, legal professionals, and journalists working on the most important challenges at the intersection of national security, human rights, civil liberties, democracy, and international legal matters.
The Legal Editor will work with Just Security’s small, collegial team in soliciting, editing, and producing articles to ensure comprehensive and balanced coverage; contribute to the day-to-day management of Just Security; work on projects such as symposia and resources (timelines, litigation trackers, etc.); and may potentially write for Just Security on areas within their expertise. The Legal Editor will work on a combination of legal and policy topics, but ability to engage critically with legal writing is critical for the position.
Compensation is $80,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience. The position includes the title of Research Scholar at NYU Law School and comes with full benefits.
To apply, send a CV, brief cover letter, and contact information for 2-3 references no later than Mon., April 14, to Bri Cuffe (cuffeb@mercury.law.nyu.edu) and Megan Corrarino (mcorrarino@justsecurity.org). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible. Please include in the subject line: “Just Security Legal Editor.”
