Ahimsa Wickrematunge

Ahimsa Wickrematunge (@awickrematunge) is a Sri Lankan activist. She has been seeking accountability for the murder of her father, journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, for over ten years.
In 2019, Ahimsa and the Center for Justice and Accountability (CJA), which represents survivors of torture and other grave human rights abuses, filed a civil suit in the United States against former Sri Lankan defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was elected president in November that year. In 2021, Ahimsa and CJA filed a communication to the U.N. Human Rights Committee arising out of Sri Lanka’s violations of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
