Shelly O’Neill Stoneman (@StonemanSO) is Senior Vice President of Government Relations for BAE Systems, Inc., and a member of the Board of Directors. Prior to joining BAE in 2013, she was an advisor for three Secretaries of Defense: Robert Gates, Leon Panetta and Chuck Hagel. From 2009 until 2011, Shelly worked in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs as Special Assistant to the President and was responsible for the defense and national security legislative portfolio.
From 2003 to 2009, she worked for Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), serving as both his Deputy Chief of Staff and managing his Appropriations Committee responsibilities. Earlier, she worked for the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee focusing on arms control and missile defense. Shelly earned her B.A. from Vassar College and has a M.A in National Security Studies from the Naval War College, as well as a M.A. in International Relations from the University of Oklahoma’s Program in Europe. She is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
She is the chair of the Leadership Council of Women in National Security (LCWINS) and also chairs the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS). She is also on LinkedIn.
