Matthew “Hezzy” Smith (@hmssmith), an international human rights lawyer, directs advocacy initiatives at the Harvard Law School Project on Disability. He has worked closely with self-advocacy and disabled peoples’ organizations both in the United States and abroad to advocate, research, and produce awareness-raising materials. He regularly provides counsel to organizations seeking to advance legal advocacy in support of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and has worked on disability rights projects for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of State. His Spanish, English, and Bangla language materials have shaped disability rights strategic litigation and important decisions by national and regional courts. His disability rights scholarship has appeared in collections published by Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press, as well as U.S. and international law reviews. He holds degrees from Harvard College and American University Washington College of Law. He is also on LinkedIn.
