Sirine Shebaya
Sirine Shebaya (@SirineShebaya) is a Senior Staff Attorney with Muslim Advocates. Her work focuses on the Muslim Ban, immigrants’ rights, surveillance, and other civil rights matters affecting Muslim, Arab, and South Asian communities.
She previously directed the ACLU of Maryland’s Immigrants’ Rights Program, developing a full docket of litigation and advocacy on immigration detention and enforcement issues. She played a lead role in convincing Maryland state and county jails to enact policies prohibiting the detention of immigrants for ICE. She was also Program Director of the Virginia Justice Program at CAIR Coalition, where she litigated criminal-immigration cases and advised criminal defense attorneys on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
Ms. Shebaya has published reports, op-eds, blogs, and scholarly articles on a range of civil rights, immigrants’ rights, and human rights subjects.
She serves on the Board of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers’ Guild and is a founding Board Member of the Dulles Justice Coalition.
