Maryum Saifee

Maryum Saifee (@MaryumSaifee) is a Foreign Service Officer contributing in her personal capacity and her views do not represent the U.S. Department of State. She started her Foreign Service career in Cairo during the early days of the 2011 uprising. She later served in Baghdad and Erbil, as well as most recently as spokesperson at the U.S. Consulate in Lahore. In Washington, she has worked as a policy advisor in the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, Office of Religion and Global Affairs, and the Bureau of International Organization Affairs. Prior to the State Department, she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jordan and an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Seattle.
Ms. Saifee was also a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow, Truman National Center for Policy Senior Visiting Fellow, and Presidential Leadership Scholar. She has a graduate degree in international and public affairs from Columbia University.
