Sami Abdelhalim Saeed (@SamiSaeed121) is the Head of the International IDEA Programme for Sudan, a position he has held since 2020. He previously served at the United Nations as a legal advisor in the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (from 2006 – 2020), providing analyses and research on legal issues of post-conflict in transformative communities. Saeed’s previous experience includes having practiced law before the Constitutional Court in Sudan; teaching public law; and supporting civil society organizations on developing training in peacebuilding, preventing and countering violent extremism in the Horn of Africa, and supporting women’s political participation in post-conflict environments.
Saeed holds an LL.B, Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Translation, LL.M on IHL, and a Ph.D. in Constitution Law. His research interests include the constitution, democracy, restorative justice, transitional justice, human rights, and conflict resolution.
