Florence Powell is an Associate News Editor at Just Security and a legal fellow at JUSTICE, a law reform and human rights organization based in the UK.
Prior to joining JUSTICE, Florence completed a BA in law at the University of Cambridge, with an ERASMUS year at the Université de Poitiers, France. She trained and qualified as a solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, where she practiced in the Disputes Resolution team specialising in EU, Competition and Public Law. During her training contract, Florence spent six months working in the housing law team at Tower Hamlets Law Centre, where she helped set up a remote housing advice clinic following Covid-19.
Florence currently volunteers with SOAS Detainee Support, assisting individuals held in immigration detention centres, and helps provide free legal advice to individuals at several legal advice centres. Florence’s previous experience includes working as an intern at the Office of Capital and Forensic Writs in Austin Texas, volunteering with Liberty, and interning at the Prisoners’ Advice Service.
