Dr. Chris O’Meara (LinkedIn – Bluesky – X) is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Exeter. Chris’ research interests lie in the field of public international law, with a particular focus on conflict and security. Chris holds a PhD in International Law from University College London. Prior to joining Exeter Law School, he was a Fellow in Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science and has been a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School and Leiden Law School. Chris previously practiced as a lawyer at Linklaters and Latham & Watkins.
Chris is the author of Necessity and Proportionality and the Right of Self-Defence in International Law (OUP, 2021). His latest book, The Right of Self-Defence in International Law, will be published by OUP as part of their Elements of International Law series. Chris has also published in leading international law journals, including the Leiden Journal of International Law, International & Comparative Law Quarterly, and Journal on the Use of Force and International Law.
