Rowda Abdullahi Olad (LinkedInX) is a clinical mental health practitioner who has been working in East Africa for the past seven years in the peacebuilding field. As the Executive Director of the Maandeeq Mental Health and Peace Institute, she plays a pivotal role in advancing mental health initiatives and peacebuilding efforts in East Africa. Rowda is a key contributor to the National Reconciliation Framework’s Strategic Plan with the Somali Federal Minister of Interior, developing the National Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Plan that aligns with this framework.

Rowda is recognized for her expertise in integrating MHPSS into peacebuilding processes and reconciliation efforts. Her work has been featured in Vogue, and has inspired international organizations and peacebuilding practitioners throughout East Africa. She designs and develops psychosocial support, providing services to NGOs and public institutions. In addition, Rowda is co-founder and co-chair of the East Africa MHPSS Network, Rowda has been instrumental in advancing the mental health agenda in the region.

In 2021, Rowda led the Women for Peace Forum, known as #GogalDumar, which aimed to prevent a descent back into civil war in Somalia. Her political career is highlighted by her tenure as District Commissioner of Waaberi, a district with a population exceeding 90,000, where she effectively engaged all 17 districts to implement security plans and promote effective local governance. Her dedication to public service has garnered her widespread recognition and appreciation from the residents of Mogadishu.

Rowda also served as the General Secretary of the 2015 National Drought Committee, appointed by President Hassan Sh. Mohamud, where she played a crucial role in uniting efforts to support communities affected by drought throughout Somalia.
