Will Meeker

Will Meeker is the Senior Director for Africa at the International Republican Institute (IRI), where he leads strategic engagement on issues of democracy and governance in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Meeker provides leadership and oversight of IRI’s programs on the continent, currently in 24 countries in West, East, Central, and Southern Africa. Mr. Meeker is an expert in conflict prevention and stabilization, election integrity, citizen-centered governance, and civil society.
Prior to joining IRI, Mr. Meeker led the Africa Team and DC Office of Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC). At CIVIC, he oversaw programming and high-level advocacy across West, Central and East/Horn of Africa to support citizen engagement with state and non-state actors on security and governance issues. Mr. Meeker also served at the Department of State’s Bureau for Conflict and Stabilization operations as a Deputy Director as well as numerous thematic and country-lead positions to improve electoral integrity and advance conflict prevention and stabilization. As part of this work, Mr. Meeker lived in Nigeria, Kenya, and Afghanization. Mr. Meeker brings additional experience with MSI, USAID, and the Wilson Center.
He holds an MS in Military Science, an MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution, and a BA in Global Studies.
