Taisa Markus
Taisa Markus is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law – Urbana Champaign and a Visiting Professor at the Kyiv Mohyla Faculty of Law in Ukraine. At Illinois, Taisa teaches business law courses focused on emerging markets and at Kyiv Mohyla, Taisa guest lectures on business law and supports the legal English writing program.
Until 2021, Taisa was in private practice working on cross border capital markets and corporate finance transactions in emerging markets with a particular focus on Latin America. Taisa was recognized in Chambers Latin America, Chambers USA Banking, Chambers USA, Capital Markets Debt & Equity, Legal 500 and Latinvex as a leading lawyer. She has written on various topics related to finance in emerging markets and has spoken at PLI and Euromoney seminars.
She serves on various boards and has been active in women’s bar associations and groups in the United States and in Latin America. As a proud Ukrainian American, since the full-scale invasion, Taisa has spoken at and moderated panels on legal issues arising out of the war against Ukraine. Taisa received a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law and a B.S. in Mathematics, cum laude, from Loyola University of Chicago. Taisa speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and Ukrainian. She is also on LinkedIn.
