Max Margulies

Max Z. Margulies (@mzmargulies) is an assistant professor and the Director of Research at the Modern War Institute at West Point. From 2018-2020, he served as an assistant professor of international affairs and Executive Director of the Rupert H. Johnson Grand Strategy program in West Point’s Department of Social Sciences. His research focuses on military recruitment and personnel policies, military effectiveness, and civil-military relations. He is a contributor to Reconsidering American Civil-Military Relations: The Military, Society, Politics, and Modern War from Oxford University Press, and has previously published in War on the Rocks, Lawfare, and the Monkey Cage blog. He earned his PhD in political science from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018.
