Payton Knopf was the deputy special envoy for the Horn of Africa in the Biden administration, a policy advisor to U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell as well as spokesman for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan E. Rice during the Obama Administration, and an advisor to two presidential special envoys for Sudan and South Sudan in the administration of George W. Bush. He was also the coordinator of the first UN Panel of Experts on South Sudan, an advisor to the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, an advisor to the U.S. Institute of Peace, and an International Affairs Fellow in residence at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is currently Special Advisor with the Dialogue Advisory Group, an independent organization that facilitates political dialogue to reduce violence. He is on LinkedIn.
