Kate Hixon

Kate Hixon (@kahixo) is the Advocacy Director for Africa at Amnesty International USA, where she leads AIUSA’s advocacy efforts regarding key human rights issues across sub-Saharan Africa through engagement with decision-makers in government and on the Hill.
Prior to Amnesty, Kate served as the Senior Policy Advisor for Africa and UN issues at the British Embassy in Washington DC. In this role she advised on a range of policy matters related to foreign and security policy issues in sub-Saharan Africa, multilateral institutions and human rights. Kate has also worked at both Freedom House and the National Democratic Institute where she managed and implemented human rights and democracy programs in sub-Saharan Africa.
Kate has a Masters in Human Rights Law from the London School of Oriental and African Studies and a Masters in International Relations from the London School of Economics. She is a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member and a Truman National Security Fellow. She is also on LinkedIn.
