Alan is the Team Lead for the Case-Building project at the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC). In addition to providing legal analysis and advice on various international legal matters, he manages SJAC’s Europe-based team in support of the domestic accountability processes within different jurisdictions for international crimes committed in Syria. His team focuses on identifying potential suspects of such crimes who are present in Europe, while also connecting witnesses and survivors of these crimes to the relevant domestic authorities. Prior to joining SJAC, Alan worked as a Legal Advisor with several (Syrian) CSOs. He also worked as an Academic Mentor at the University of Amsterdam, and as a research assistant at the International Committee of the Red Cross. Alan holds an LL.M. in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from the Geneva Academy and a (joint) LL.M. in International Criminal Law from the University of Amsterdam and Columbia Law School.
