Paolo Busco is a barrister admitted both in Italy and in England and Wales. He practices from Twenty Essex Chambers in London, and his work concerns matters at the intersection between international law, diplomacy, and foreign relations.
Paolo has been involved as counsel in more than 10 inter-State cases, including before the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Annex VII to UNCLOS arbitral tribunals and ad hocdispute settlement mechanisms, as well as in numerous cases concerning public international law before domestic courts, in various jurisdictions. He also has significant experience in inter-State negotiations, mediations and conciliation procedures. His work as counsel is recognized by the main legal directories, including Chambers & Partners Global and Legal 500.
In addition to his practice from Chambers, Paolo has also been a senior legal advisor to high Government officials, including Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Home Affairs in Italy and in the Middle East.
He holds law degrees from Luiss University in Rome (LLB), the University of Cambridge (LLM) as well as the University of Paris 1 Sorbonne and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa (PhDs).
