Jane Buchanan

Jane Buchanan is an independent human rights investigator and advocate currently working as the Senior Advocacy Advisor for HelpAge USA, an organization dedicated to advancing the human rights, dignity, and well-being of older people around the world. Prior to her work with HelpAge USA, Buchanan spent 17 years at Human Rights Watch researching human rights violations around the world, with a focus on discrimination and abuse against marginalized groups, including older people, people with disabilities, women, children, and migrants. She also develops and leads human rights investigation training programs for Columbia University and the School of the New York Times. The author of dozens of human rights reports, her writing has also appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.
Buchanan holds an M.A. in International Affairs and Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. from Bowdoin College. She is fluent in Russian. She is on LinkedIn.
