Alexis Blane

Alexis Blane (@AlexisBlane) is the Principal Deputy Counsel to the Mayor, having previously served as Acting Counsel to the Mayor, and is a member of the Board of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. She is an experienced public interest lawyer who has served in various roles in the federal government, nonprofits sector, and city government. Prior to working for the City, she was an advisor to social enterprises and nonprofits working on international justice issues. She worked at the Clinton Foundation, where she was the Governance Officer & Associate General Counsel. In that role, she developed industry-leading best practices for social enterprises and led Foundation-Board relations.
She also previously served as an Attorney Advisor at the U.S. State Department, where she worked with U.S. and international counterparts on issues such as international law enforcement cooperation, counter-piracy initiatives, and anti-corruption work. She led a U.N. Convention Against Corruption review delegation, served as an expert on counterpiracy law for the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, and renegotiated the U.S.-Chile extradition treaty. She has also served on the board of several direct services non-profit organizations in New York City. She served as a law clerk to Judge Allyson K. Duncan on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Alexis holds a J.D. from NYU School of Law, a DPhil from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and an A.B. from Duke University, where she was an avid attendee of basketball games.
