Dr. Melissa Bender (@mbendernyc) received an AB in Government from Harvard College, a MD from Harvard Medical School, and a MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her training in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and an infectious disease fellowship at the combined Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital program. Bender is a former Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, former Instructor of Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, and former Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She has served as an infectious disease physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Bellevue Hospital in New York City, and as an internal medicine physician at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. Through her postgraduate work, Bender gained experience using decision-analytic, state transition, and cost-effectiveness modeling to evaluate treatment policies for HIV- and HIV/TB-infected patients in resource-limited settings including in India, South Africa, and the United States.
