Marta Abrantes Mendes

Marta Abrantes Mendes has been a consultant with the Open Society Foundations (OSF) since 2019. She carries out research on transitional justice in Yemen and provides support to OSF’s partner organizations in Yemen on research activities in the sphere of accountability and redress. She authored a report about Yemen’s civil society recommendations for long-term accountability and transitional justice that was published in February 2021.
Marta previously served as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross for seven years, including missions to the Middle East. Her two last assignments were in Yemen and in Syria as Protection Coordinator.
Before joining the ICRC, Marta worked for the Rule of Law Unit of the European Union Police Mission in Kabul. She is a graduate of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
