Judge Eagan’s latest Section 215 metadata order for the FISC expired last Friday.  The government sought renewal, and the FISC has approved it, reports the Director of National Intelligence.  The DNI adds that “[t]he administration is undertaking a declassification review of this most recent court order.”

The Center for National Security Studies had asked the FISC to permit interested persons or organizations to submit amicus curiae briefs.  [UPDATE:  Last Wednesday, the FISC responded that CNSS had to make its request as a formal motion, something that presumably NSCC will now do before the next application for renewal.  The FISC thus issued this new, most recent renewal order without hearing from parties other than DOJ.]
